Jacksonville used its first four draft picks on defensive lineman

2010 is a pivotal year for head coach Jack Del Rio, quarterback David Garrard and the Jacksonville franchise itself. Amid the rumors of a possible relocation after two losing seasons and a disenchanted fan base, Del Rio and Garrard must have a strong start to save their jobs.

The Jags ranked 24th in the NFL in both points scored and points allowed in 2009. They were extremely inconsistent, looking great one week and pitiful the next. The offensive star is running back Maurice Jones-Drew. "Pocket Hercules" exploded for almost 1,400 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns in last season. He accomplished this without a very strong passing game to complement him. Mike Sims-Walker (this team loves the hyphen), had a strong year with 63 catches for 869 yards, but questions remain whether he is a true number one receiver. Garrard threw for a lot of yards in 2009, but had a poor touchdown to interception ratio of 15 to 10.

Jacksonville used its first four draft picks on defensive lineman, including questionable number ten overall selection Tyson Alualu. They are hoping these rookies, along with Aaron Kampman who came over from Green Bay, can help a defense that ranked 27th against the pass. Trading for Kirk Morrison at middle linebacker was a good decision, but it will remain to be seen if the defense can keep up with the prolific offenses of their division rivals.

If they played in a weaker division, the Jaguars football jerseys might have a chance in 2010. But with the offensive issues and the porous defense they have, it looks like they are destined for another 4th place finish in the AFC South.

After being selected with the 89th overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft, Ayodele went on to have four productive seasons for the new Jacksonville Jaguars jerseys. Unfortunately for him, Akin peaked in his second professional campaign and was out of favor by the end of the 2005 season. He then caught on with the Dallas Cowboys and, in his first experience in the 3-4, had another solid season before his production fell off the following year. In the past two seasons, he played for the Miami Dolphins with moderate overall results. Now in Denver, he's expected to continue to contribute in limited scenarios, but he could expand that role if his performance warrants it.
