Suh Doesn’t Want Holdout with Lions, Agent May Have Other Ideas

If it were up to Ndamukong Suh, the Detroit Lions first-round draft choice (No. 2 overall), there would be no hold out on signing his contract.

Unfortunately for Suh, the reality is that the decision is hardly up to him—odd though that may seem.

The big defensive tackle's agent, Eugene Parker, is notorious for not having his clients report to camp on time. Of his 18 first-round clients in 2009, only one was signed by the time training camp opened according to PFT.

"Typically what happens is when there's a sense of urgency by both parties, things get done," Parker told Rich Kaipust of the Omaha World-Herald.

One his more notable holdouts last season was San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree.

Perhaps working in Suh's favor of being at the opening of camp is the fact that Parker vowed not to wait until Sam Bradford and Gerald McCoy, who were drafted immediately before and after him in the draft, to be signed.

"I can't say the information isn't relevant, but we look at Ndamukong as his own person," said Parker. "We do a deal based on him. You look at a lot of factors, so I can't say those would be irrelevant, but we're not necessarily waiting on them. They might be waiting on us."

Suh, meanwhile, is setting up his agent to take the heat if there is a holdout situation.

"I'm not a guy that likes to be a part of drama," Suh said. "I definitely don't want to hold out."
